Networking is one of the fastest changing industries to work in. Technologies and even business models that are were successful only five years ago are now struggling whereas businesses and technologies that weren't even invented ten years ago are ubiquitous.
In this ever-changing environment of disruptive technologies and businesses, understanding how the needs of the R&E community are changing is essential for policy and decision makers across Europe.
The need for deep and strategic understanding of the future direction was the core reason for the ASPIRE foresight study. ASPIRE (A Study on the Prospect of the Internet for Research and Education) provides strategic recommendations to policy and decision makers on topics likely to have a significant impact for the future of research and education (R&E) networking. Its recommendations cover a range of topics and technologies in the following fields;
In addition to these specific reports, a final report summarising the recommendations has been created to provide a strategic overview of these topics.
The ASPIRE study was led by GÉANT's partner organisation, TERENA.
The final report and four topic reports can be downloaded from the TERENA website – www.terena.org/publications
