Connectivity Roaming (eduroam)

eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. eduroam allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions by simply opening their laptop.

Implementing eduroam outside Europe

eduroam is a global service which strongly encourages the addition of participating countries from all around the world. To date, in addition to the 40 European countries where eduroam exists, it is implemented in a further 19 countries outside Europe (Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Hong Kong, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Macau, Morocco, New Zealand, Peru, South Africa, Republic of China, Thailand, United States of America).

In Latin America, eduroam is one of the services which the EC-funded ELCIRA project aims to expand across the region by encouraging and assisting NRENs in the deployment of the service. Through the involvement of GÉANT partners in ELCIRA, GÉANT is closely involved in these efforts.
