CLASSeCloud-ABFAB Federation Services in eduroam |
| |
Participants:University of Murcia; University of Kent Objective:To investigate the use of Application Bridging for Federated Access Beyond web (ABFAB) technology for cloud services. Approach:The project will initially investigate the use of ABFAB technology for cloud services using as a reference implementation the integration of Moonshot into OpenStack. The suitability of the Moonshot/OpenStack prototype implementation, produced by the University of Kent prior to CLASSe starting, will be validated for use over GÉANT, with deployment and installation guides produced. Subsequently, CLASSe will test solutions to improve traditional Single Sign-On (SSO), and research solutions of real SSO to provide quick access to cloud services based on previous authentication carried out from application and network services, (cloud-to-cloud SSO and network-to-cloud SSO). Finally, CLASSe will research and design solutions to support the dynamic formation of Virtual Organizations (VOs), so that any users will be able to form their own VOs for access to their own private cloud services. This will negate the need to have a separate Virtual Organisation Membership Service (VOMS) as is necessary in today’s grids. Impact:The CLASSe project will improve end user experience when accessing cloud services over the GÉANT network by means of upgraded SSO mechanisms, and a reduction in authentication data transfer across the network. Providing inbuilt support for virtual organisation management within OpenStack will allow users to easily share these cloud resources.
